

Rev. Dr. D. Pennie Damon


Reverend Dr. D. Pennie Damon is the daughter of the late Mr. Grover L. Damon and Mrs. Pearlina Slater Damon, and the youngest of nine children. Though single with no children of her own, she lovingly embraces her role as “mom” to her fifty‑one nieces and nephews. She resides in the Syracuse community of Darlington, South Carolina.
Dr. Damon is a graduate of Spaulding High School in Lamar, SC. She earned a Clerk‑Typist diploma from Florence‑Darlington Technical College and later attended Elohim Bible College in Hartsville, SC for three years under the leadership of the renowned Bishop Vera M. Davis. She also completed one year of study in Business Administration at Coker College.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at age thirteen and has lived faithfully for God throughout her adult life. A devoted member of Savannah Grove AME Church in Lamar, SC, she has served diligently in many areas of ministry. Answering her call to preach on August 20, 1998, she delivered her initial sermon on December 26, 1998. She was ordained a Deacon in September 2002 at Mt. Zion AME Church in Florence, SC.
Dr. Damon has served several congregations across South Carolina. She pastored Heyward Chapel AME Church in Johnsonville for three years before becoming pastor of Zion Hill AME Church in Lakeview on August 31, 2008. She later served New Spring Hill AME Church in Dillon from November 14, 2009, to November 12, 2016; Mount Hebron AME Church in Pomaria from November 13, 2016, to September 9, 2017; and New Mount Zion AME Church in Sellers from November 18, 2018, to September 8, 2022. She currently serves as pastor of Mt. Calvary AME Church in Hartsville, SC. To God be the glory.
Her academic achievements include graduating from Allen University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. She completed 1½ years of coursework at Erskine Theological Seminary and earned her Master of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, North Carolina, on May 9, 2009. She was ordained an Elder on September 4, 2009. Dr. Damon later received her Doctorate of Theology from Fisher Hill Bible College in Cheraw, SC.
Dr. Damon’s lifelong mission is to remain in God’s perfect will and to be a light shining in darkness. Her guiding scriptures include:
Galatians 2:20 – “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me.”
Psalm 34:1 – “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
Isaiah 26:3 – “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee.”
Isaiah 65:24 – “It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
